The number of domestic tourists reached 3.611 billion, bringing in revenue of RMB3.03 trillion, an increase of 10.7% and 15.4% year on year; the number of inbound tourists increased to 128 million and revenue from international tourism totalled USD105.38 billion; 107 million Chinese people travelled overseas, who spent USD89.64 billion in total. In the year, China registered total tourism revenue of RMB3.73 trillion. The tourism industry contributed RMB6.61 trillion to national GDP, accounting for 10.39% of GDP. 27.794 million people were directly employed by the tourism industry, and 78.73 million worked in the industry directly or indirectly, accounting for 10.19% of China’s working population.
I. Domestic Tourism

IV. Scale and Performance of Travel Agencies

V. Scale and Performance of Star-rated Hotels
By the end of 2014, China had 12,803 star-rated hotels that were included in the national star-rated hotels statistics and management system, of which 11,180 hotels had submitted their 2014 statements of financial position and passed review of provincial tourism authorities. Financial data of the 11,180 star-rated hotels show that:
——They had 1.4979 million guest rooms and 2.6248 million beds in total, with fixed assets of RMB500.948 billion; registered business revenue of RMB215.145 billion; paid business tax of RMB1.2529 billion; and had an average occupancy rate of 54.2%.
——Among them, there were 745 five-star hotels, 2,372 four-star hotels, 5,406 three-star hotels, 2,557 two-star hotels, and 99 one-star hotels.
——The 3,057 state-owned star-rated hotels posted business revenue of RMB65.183 billion and paid business tax of RMB3.553 billion.
——The 442 star-rated hotels with foreign investments and investments from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan registered business revenue of RMB29.008 billion and paid business tax of RMB1.668 billion.
VI. Tourism Education and Training
——By the end of 2014, China had 1,122 higher tourism education institutions and general higher education institutions with tourism departments/majors, an increase of 163 over the previous year, and they had 435,200 million students in total, a decrease of 59,100; there were 933 secondary tourism schools with a total of 318,100 students, an increase of 60 and 40,900 respectively. Together, there were 2,055 institutions that provided higher and secondary tourism education for 753,300 students.
——In 2014, 4.6213 million people working in the tourism industry received on-the-job training, an increase of 348,830, or 8.2%, over the previous year.
